Shetland’s home for cats since 1982.
Gott Cats is Shetland’s only dedicated boarding cattery — fully licensed, exclusively for cats, and under the same caring management for over four decades.
We’re centrally located close to Tingwall Airport and open all year round. We welcome only vaccinated cats, and you’re always welcome to come and inspect our facilities before you book.
Proud to be a Feline Advisory Bureau listed cattery.

Our Facilities
A warm, secure and stimulating environment for your cat — whatever their age or temperament.

Central corridor
Spacious heated corridor running the full length of the building, giving each unit its own private access.

Private living area
Each unit has a heated sleeping area with a viewing window, fitted with Perla beds or Vet-bed — or we’re happy to use bedding from home.

Spacious run
Individual outdoor runs with a scratching log, ping-pong balls, and a wooden bench where residents can enjoy fresh air and sunshine.

The aviary
Clear glass sides throughout mean your cat can watch our cockatiels fly and sing in the aviary — especially lively during Shetland’s Simmer Dim.
We pride ourselves on catering for cats of all ages and needs. Heated igloos are available for our senior residents and less mobile guests, ensuring every cat stays warm and comfortable whatever the Shetland weather brings. We’ve been trusted with some remarkable guests over the years — our eldest boarder, the wonderful Candelia, stayed with us at 23 years old. Every cat, whatever their age, gets the same careful attention.

About Us
We all adore cats — and it shows in everything we do.
Comfort and contentment are our priorities. Our staff follow FAB guidelines and take time to understand each cat as an individual, communicating with them on their own terms.
Radio 4 plays quietly in the background, thirteen male cockatiels entertain our more active boarders from the aviary, and elderly or shy cats are offered units with a tranquil outlook. We cater for special diets, care for disabled cats, and can administer medication for most ongoing conditions — always in close liaison with your vet. Your cat’s routine at home is our routine here.
We have a long association with Shetland Cats Protection, having helped found the Shetland Branch of the CPL back in 1984 — cats have been at the heart of what we do from the very beginning.
Cat care
Your cat’s comfort and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. TLC is our motto — and we mean it.
When you get in touch, we’ll ask about your cat’s health, age and character so we can choose the most suitable unit and make them feel at home from the moment they arrive. Collars are removed for the duration of the stay, and we’ll always replicate their diet from home.

Diet & routine
We follow your cat’s normal feeding routine exactly, including special diets. Meal frequency is tailored to each individual resident.

Gentle settling in
For shy or nervous cats we can use Bach Flower Remedy, Feliway or Pet Remedy with your permission — and we’ll always place puss in their own bed where possible.

Daily monitoring
Guided by FAB, we maintain daily records for every cat in our care, tracking progress and flagging any changes. We liaise directly with your vet if needed.

Hygiene & handling
Scrupulous hygiene is central to our daily routines. Combing and cuddles are offered every day — always with your cat’s own preferences respected.
